Where do sexual imbalances come from?
Feb 8th
We live in a world where sexual energy has been distorted, which creates manipulation, repression and a world of people who are unaware sexually and struggling spiritually. In the words of Tantric Master, Nityama, “Many people were coming to me wanting to develop their spirituality but what I discovered is they were generally shut down, repressed, and totally out of touch with their sexuality. From my perspective, sex is the caterpillar and spirit is the butterfly and there is absolutely no possibility of having a beautiful butterfly without having a healthy caterpillar.”
Very few people are comfortable and natural in being able to feel sex in their body. This means that mostly sex is happening in the mind, with some sensation in the genitals, limited feeling in the rest of the body and minimal connection between the two people making love.
Most people are looking for a real experience of sex and feeling in the body and don’t know how to create it, due to the limited availability of real sexual education in this society. As a result many people struggle in their relationships as they fumble sexually, creating disillusionment that leaks from the bedroom into the rest of their life, many give up on sex and shut down even further due to feeling dissatisfied or they resort to fantasy and porn to create the sensation which is missing from their inner experience.
The use of fantasy and porn is counterproductive as it takes a person further away from their body and means they are not fully with their lover, and over time they will require stronger images in order to feel anything.
The disconnection from the body and life force energy begins at an early age, due to the conditioning that is handed down through the generations. Young girls and boys are given warnings and messages about sex, relating, their own bodies and self expression such as “don’t touch yourself”, “stay away from girls / boys” “be a good boy / girl” “don’t be so noisy” and so on. This leads to the child becoming uneasy about the sexual feelings they experience in their body and to therefore, retreat from feeling.
The child begins to shut down their life force energy; the child will ‘play small’, leave the body and hide in the mind. He or she either looks to do the right thing for approval or rebels against the parents, in order to seek attention, all the while living from the voices of the parents and society which have by now become ingrained in the body and being.
All of these behaviours and messages cause an individual to be less alive and less vibrant and create the shutting down of sexual energy.
Not knowing

Another of the spiritual discourses that speak so deeply to my heart. This one is by a woman called Unmani:
“Thought likes to think about the future and the past. To grasp hold of that that can’t be understood. To try to box and define things. Because that’s its nature. But what you are, beyond any idea of who you think you are, can never be boxed or defined in any way at all. So it’s an absolutely frustrating and impossible game that thought plays. But just hearing this being said, doesn’t mean that it’s just going to stop. The nature of thought is to think. It doesn’t need to stop. Why should it? What you are is never touched by thought in any way. Thought can think that you are in this body, you are a separate person, you are unenlightened, suffering. Whatever it thinks. But what you are is never touched, never defined by anything, any box that thought attempts to put you in.
When I say ‘You’ I am refering to who you are beyond any idea of you. This you. Another word for this you could be life, awareness, consciousness. It really doesn’t matter what word you put to it. Because it’s not about the words. Words just skim across the surface. Vaguely point. Who you are can never be defined by a word. Who you are can never be limited by a word. Or even a whole meeting of words. Who you are is simply noticing what is happening right now. This room, the sound of this voice. This thought, this sensation. Who you are is simply noticing what is happening. Not separate from it. So in fact the visual appearance of this room is what you are, appearing as a room. Appearing as a separate person sitting on a chair. Appearing as in fact, many separate people sitting on chairs here. The appearance of separation is fantastic, very intricate. It very much seems as if there are quite a few people sitting on chairs.
What you are simply sees this. What you are is never separate. Even though there may be an appearance of separation happening. This is simply an appearance. A play, as if we are separate. Knowing all the time that it’s simply a play. Which is why often, for quite a lot of people this message somehow resonates in a way that they can’t quite put their finger on. Thought doesn’t like it often. It’s often threatening. But this is already known, and that’s why it resonates. What you are is hearing what you are.
Thought will doubt and deny. But what you are doesn’t care. What you are simply sees the doubt. Notices the denial. Is untouched by it. This is always known. Never not known. It’s known right now. This is your voice speaking. So of course it’s known!”
Sensing Inside

I love this:
We often look into our mind to know something, and so when we want to know ourselves, we often look into the mind for that also. But the mind is full of thoughts about what we want to know and never the thing itself. You will never find an apple or a lover or a sunset or anything in your mind, just thoughts about these things. And you will never find your true Self in the mind, just a lot of thoughts about the true Self. That is just what the mind is made of and so that is what you find in there.
What if you sense in your heart instead? I am not suggesting you think about what you might find in your heart. What if you actually sense the space inside your chest? What is actually here right now within the space of your body? It can be helpful to rest your hands over your chest, and then simply notice what is really present beneath your hands. No need to think much about it, just directly sense what is here.
